Sisters of Divine Providence Move from Castroville to San Antonio June 15, 1896.

On June 15, 1896, the generalate and some of the sisters moved, from Castroville to the congregation’s new home in San Antonio, to complete the final details so that the building could be solemnly blessed. Pictured is the Main Building under construction in 1895. When Mother Florence was introduced to the undeveloped ground beside Elmendorf Lake she declared, “This is the place. Someday, upon this land, will stand a beautiful Gothic chapel with twin spires pointing up to the blue Texas sky.”
