Holy Redeemer Parish in Odessa celebrates Sr. Estela Guadalupe Tovar’s 60th Jubilee

On Saturday, August 17, Holy Redeemer Parish in Odessa, TX, gathered to celebrate the 60th Jubilee of Sister Estela Guadalupe Tovar, CDP. Bishop Michael Sis presided and led the congregation in honoring Sr. Estela’s six decades as a Sister of Divine Providence (CDP) and the various communities she has ministered to over the years. The enthusiastic gathering of parishioners demonstrates the meaningful impact of Sr. Estela’s current role at Holy Redeemer Parish

Inspired by her parish priest, Father José Malagón, Sister Estela felt a deep calling to serve as a missionary and spread the Good News. Although initially unfamiliar with the CDPs, her desire to follow her vocation led her to join the Congregation at just fifteen years old. This decision marked the beginning of a life filled with spiritual growth, challenges, and profound love for her community.

Among the many fulfilling experiences in her ministry, Sister Estela says her work with prisoners stands out as particularly meaningful. Offering spiritual and emotional support to those deprived of their freedom, she discovered a deeper understanding of humanity. This ministry, she says, was one of the most rewarding periods of her religious life.

The jubilee Mass was also a special moment for other members of the CDP community. Sisters Kate Fitzgerald, CDP and Christina Chavez, CDP had the privilege of renewing their vows alongside Sister Estela, a poignant reminder of our shared commitment to living out the mission of the Congregation. The presence of Sister Christina’s mother, one of our Associate CDPs, added to the joy of the celebration, underscoring the strong bonds that unite us as a family in faith.

In honoring our jubilarians we are reminded of the enduring power of faith and the impact one life dedicated to God can have on so many. May their example continue to inspire us all to live out our own vocations with the same love, commitment, and grace.
