Ministry is responding to the needs of others in the spirit of Jesus who came not to be served but to serve.
John Martin Moye, the founder of the Sisters of Divine Providence saw needs being neglected, especially in the exclusion of the poor from the educational system of his time and place.
Today, the Sisters continue this legacy to respond to the material and spiritual needs of our time through ministries in education, health and social service.
Our ministries are lived out in a variety of settings: Pastoral services in parishes and dioceses, teaching, counseling, hospital chaplaincy, nursing, social services and community organizing, retreat ministry, spiritual direction and advocacy for a variety of justice issues.
Active ministry is strengthened and completed by those Sisters among us who minister through prayer, suffering and hospitality.
CDP Core Values
CONFIDENCE IN DIVINE PROVIDENCE: We trust that we ourselves and our world are in the hands of God whose love and power accomplish more than we can understand.
SIMPLICITY: With a God-centered singleness of heart and purpose, we act with sincerity and truth. Living simply in the spirit of Gospel poverty – without excessive goods and comforts – frees us to do God’s work.
CHARITY: Compelled by the compassionate love of God for creation, we serve persons in need and share freely with others the gifts we have received.
COMMUNITY: We create community—places and attitudes of welcome, acceptance, and partnership—in our homes, our workplaces, and all our relationships.
